British Armed Forces Minister James Heappey noted that "the United Kingdom has a military team in Sudan assessing the situation there," as the government held an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss available options to assist around four thousand British nationals stranded there. Heappey told LBC Radio: "I do not accept this criticism; I have complete confidence in the options we are working on." He added, "There is indeed a military team in the east of the country in Port Sudan evaluating the situation so that we can provide all possible options to Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to assist British nationals in Sudan." The British government is facing some criticism for evacuating its nationals at a slower rate compared to other countries. Germany, Japan, and France are working to evacuate their citizens from Sudan.
