Uruguayan Team Cuts a Line on the Field in Protest Against Refereeing

The "Peñarol" team from Uruguay cut a line on the field during their match against "Boston River" in the local first division football league, in protest against the annulment of two goals by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in a previous match. Ground staff cut the line inside the penalty area to express the club's anger following their 1-0 loss to Danubio nine days earlier, after the VAR intervened to disallow two of the team's goals. Peñarol's president, Ignacio Ruglio, accused the Uruguayan Football Association and the refereeing committee of targeting the club during a local television program, stating, "We cut the line to hide the markings drawn by the VAR against Peñarol." Peñarol won 2-1 last Sunday, and they withdrew all their officials from the committees of the Uruguayan Association and demanded the resignation of the refereeing committee.
