In Ethiopia: Two Relief Workers Killed

Two workers from the Catholic Relief Agency were killed today, Sunday, in the Amhara region of Ethiopia amid violent protests against the government due to the federal government's decision to dissolve regional special forces units. Kim Bozniak, the director of the Catholic Relief Agency, stated, "The incident occurred in the town of Kobo, where residents reported heavy artillery fire." The agency added in a statement, "The details of the crime are still not known." Zimide Zodi, a representative of the Catholic Relief Agency in Ethiopia, expressed in the statement, "It is difficult to express the depth of our shock and sorrow, and we are saddened by this senseless violence." The Amhara regional government announced on Monday that it had banned protests in Gondar, which had witnessed some of the largest demonstrations, and imposed restrictions on the movement of three-wheeled vehicles there and ordered the closure of bars in the evening.
