Romania and Poland announced that a Polish aircraft conducting patrols for the European Border and Coast Guard Agency "Frontex" over the Black Sea near Romania narrowly avoided a collision with a Russian fighter jet on Friday. A Polish Border Guard (SG) aircraft was approached three times over the Black Sea by a Russian fighter jet, which performed aggressive and dangerous maneuvers.
According to Anna Michalska, spokesperson for the Border Guard, on Sunday via her official Twitter account, a Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jet executed "aggression and dangerous maneuvers" by approaching the Polish aircraft without maintaining a safe distance, leading to a loss of balance, altitude, and temporary loss of control of the aircraft by the Polish crew. She added, "The Russian fighter flew in front of the Polish aircraft, blocking its path from a dangerously close distance estimated by the crew as about five meters," noting that "the Russian fighter retreated after three approaches during the incident that took place in international airspace."
In turn, the Romanian Ministry of Defense stated that the behavior of the Russian fighter jet was completely unacceptable. The ministry said in a statement, "This incident is additional proof of the provocative approach of the Russian Federation in the Black Sea."
