The head of the Hamas Political Bureau, Ismail Haniya, arrived in Moscow this evening, leading a delegation from the movement's leadership. Tahrir al-Nounou, Haniya's media advisor, stated in a press release that the latter arrived in Moscow for a visit during which he intends to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and several Russian leaders and officials.
He mentioned that the Hamas delegation includes Saleh Arouri, the deputy head of the movement, and political bureau members Musa Abu Marzouk and Maher Salah. Al-Nounou noted that "this visit, which comes at the invitation of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will last several days and aims to discuss the prospects of bilateral relations that serve the Palestinian cause." He added that the visit comes "at a time of great importance at the regional and global level; discussions will address international developments and changes related to the region and their implications for the Palestinian cause," while praising the relationship with Russia and its positions on Palestine.
This visit occurs at a time of significant tension between Russia and the Israeli occupation, following Tel Aviv's stance against the Russian war in Ukraine.
