U.S. President Joe Biden plans to outline today how to divide an estimated $42 billion investment intended to expand internet services across the country's fifty states, aiming to provide high-speed broadband access to all Americans by 2030. White House Chief of Staff Jeff Zients stated, "We have a historic opportunity to make a real change in people's lives."
The Biden administration will determine how much funding each state will receive under the broadband access program, based on a coverage map recently issued by the Federal Communications Commission, which details the locations of gaps in internet service provision. The U.S. government estimates that around 8.5 million locations in the country are lacking broadband internet connections.
