Title: Study Reveals 11% of India's Population Affected by Diabetes

A government study in India has revealed that approximately 11% of Indians are suffering from diabetes, indicating that diabetes, hypertension, and obesity are significantly more prevalent in the country than previously estimated. The study, which involved over 113,000 participants, concluded that 15% of Indians are in a pre-diabetic stage and that around 35% suffer from hypertension. The research was conducted between October 2008 and December 2020 across 31 states and union territories in India.

R.S. Daliwal, the director of the Non-Communicable Diseases Division at the Indian Council of Medical Research, stated, "It is clear from the results of the study that India has a large population at risk of cardiovascular diseases and other long-term complications." The council, which funded the study, estimated that India, the most populous country in the world, has 101 million people living with diabetes.
