A powerful cyclone swept through the Indian and Pakistani coasts early this Friday morning, causing roofs, trees, and electricity poles to be torn away, resulting in power outages for thousands of residents. At least two people lost their lives in western India after being swept away by floodwaters just before the cyclone struck. Indian and Pakistani authorities evacuated more than 180,000 people in the past few days in preparation for the cyclone. The Indian Meteorological Department reported that "wind speeds decreased from 105 to 85 kilometers, and are likely to drop further this afternoon." A senior official in the Amit Arora region stated that "electricity was cut off in many places due to strong winds." The Pakistan Meteorological Department advised local authorities to remain on alert for the heavy rains expected in some coastal areas until tomorrow, Saturday.
