Media outlets have published new photos and videos from inside the house where ISIS leader Abu al-Hussein al-Qurashi was killed in a Turkish intelligence operation in northwestern Syria. The small luxurious two-story house is located in the village of Maskah near the city of Jindires in the Syrian province of Afrin. It features a private garden and an underground garage, which Qurashi did not use; instead, he preferred to shoot at Turkish intelligence officers in a standoff that lasted four hours. After security forces blew up several walls of the building, Qurashi, not wanting to be captured alive, detonated the explosive device attached to his body. Qurashi had arrived at the location from Idlib some time ago, where he took control of the organization. He did not use mobile phone communications and sent requests through couriers. According to Western and Iraqi intelligence agencies, Abu al-Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi is the brother of the former ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who was killed in Syria in 2019.
