The Lebanese Internal Security Forces - Information Branch announced the arrest of a suspect in the attempted rape of a British journalist last week while she was jogging along the waterfront in Beirut. The Information Branch quickly apprehended the suspect involved in the assault and attempted rape of the journalist in the waterfront area near KIDS MONDO, which occurred on March 29, 2023. An investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the appropriate judicial authorities.
Journalist Aya Iskandarani shared a series of tweets on Twitter, saying: "I am sharing heavy news regarding a friend in Beirut. It's sad that we've come to this, but please avoid this area if you're a woman. A friend of mine was violently attacked and raped by an unknown man while jogging near KidsMondo on the way to the Beirut waterfront. She is lucky to be alive considering the violence inflicted on her. Both she and I are worried this could happen again in an area where there are no CCTV cameras, and the police do not seem to care."
