Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva confirmed today, Monday, that Congress will approve the new fiscal framework as his government embarks on a new political chapter in the country’s history. In his speech marking the hundredth day in office, Lula stated that he still believes interest rates are "too high" and hinder economic growth, but he is confident that Congress will approve the long-awaited fiscal framework. Lula commented on the riots that occurred on January 8, when supporters of former president Jair Bolsonaro stormed government buildings in Brasília in an attempt to incite a military coup days before Lula's inauguration, saying, "The far-right did not want to leave power," and added, "We are writing a new chapter in Brazil's history; my optimism is not exaggerated." Lula went on to say that Brazil will soon establish solar and wind energy stations, and he will not miss the opportunity to transform the largest country in Latin America into a green hydrogen power.
