Senegal is making security preparations today, Friday, in anticipation of a second day of unrest after a prison sentence was handed down to opposition leader Ousmane Sonko, leading to outbreaks of violence. Security forces conducted patrols in the streets of Dakar, and authorities evacuated large groups of students from the campus. Earlier today, Senegalese Interior Minister Antoine Félix Diomi announced that nine people had been killed in the unrest on Thursday. At least 9 people were killed during protests in Senegal following the imprisonment of opposition leader Ousmane Sonko. Demonstrators set buses and cars on fire and hurled stones at the police in an effort to confront the riot police, who responded by deploying tear gas.
