Afghanistan: At Least 3 Dead and 7 Injured in Explosion

The media office for Khost province in southeastern Afghanistan reported that at least three people were killed and seven others injured in an explosion that occurred in a hotel in the province on Monday. The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear, although the area near the border with Pakistan has long been affected by violence between Islamist militants and their opponents. The media office stated that among the victims were individuals originally from the Pakistani region of Waziristan, which has been home to various militant groups for years. The Afghan Taliban administration has been attacking members of the ISIS group, which has claimed responsibility for several major attacks in urban centers in recent months.
