Slovak Prime Minister Resigns Amid Political Controversy

Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger announced on Sunday that he has asked the president to relieve him of his duties, following resignations of ministers that have weakened his caretaker government ahead of elections scheduled for September. Heger is set to meet with President Zuzana Čaputová later today. The president has the authority to appoint a new acting prime minister. Heger has received calls from the opposition to make way for a technocratic government to lead the Central European country until the early elections in September. Heger stated at a televised press conference: "I decided to ask the president to relieve me of my authority and to make way for the president to try with a technocratic government to lead Slovakia with stability and security to the democratic parliamentary elections."
