Five Palestinians were killed and others were injured, some critically, on Wednesday evening due to the explosion of a suspicious object in Malka Camp, east of Gaza City. The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported "the loss of 5 martyrs, and 19 injuries arriving at al-Shifa Medical Complex as a result of the explosion east of Gaza." Dozens of young men from Gaza staged a protest along the border in solidarity with Palestinians imprisoned in Israel. The "Committee for the Follow-Up of National and Islamic Forces" stated that the incident occurred "due to an accidental explosion of a device used in nighttime disruption activities, leading to a number of martyrs and injuries." The Israeli army stated in a statement that the protesters attempted to throw the device at its soldiers across the border. The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that five people lost their lives.
