Violent clashes erupted in the Italian city of Naples on Wednesday ahead of the return leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16 match between Napoli and Eintracht Frankfurt. Fans set a police car on fire and threw stones at buses in the city center.
As a result, Italian authorities banned fans living in Frankfurt from attending the match due to concerns about potential violence, but this did not prevent a group of fans from traveling to Italy. Italian media reported that Napoli fans threw stones and bottles at buses carrying Eintracht supporters, damaging one of its windows. Approximately 600 fans traveled from Germany, where Napoli won 2-0 in the first leg.
Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini wrote on Instagram: "These are not fans, they are criminals, thugs," expressing his full support for the police.
