It was stated that "the earthquake occurred at 3:36 local time in the Gökçun area of the province, at a depth of 16.36 km." A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Kahramanmaraş province on February 6, resulting in the destruction of several cities and leaving thousands dead and injured.
