Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Switzerland on Thursday to permit the re-export of weapons to Ukraine, stating that this would be essential in ending the Russian invasion. In a video address to the Swiss parliament, Zelensky said, "I am aware of the ongoing debate in Switzerland regarding the export of military equipment to protect and defend Ukraine. This will be necessary... We need weapons to restore peace in Ukraine." He added, "It is extremely important to show solidarity as these sanctions will help us end the aggression... We must tighten the sanctions." Zelensky also called on Switzerland to host an international peace conference and mentioned that he discussed the initiative with his Swiss counterpart Alain Berset in March.
