Paula Badosa, former world number two, announced today that she will miss the French Open due to a spinal fracture. She stated in a release, "When everything seemed alright again, I received bad news just before the start of the Roland Garros competition; during the Rome tournament, I suffered a stress fracture in my spine." She added, "The news was extremely difficult; after a challenging start to the season amidst injuries, I will be taking a break from competition for a few weeks." Badosa missed the Australian Open in January due to a thigh injury sustained during preparations in Adelaide. The 25-year-old was ranked second in the world a year ago but has dropped to 29th amid a turbulent season filled with injuries; the Spanish player recently exited the quarterfinals in Rome. The French Open is set to begin next Sunday.
