The U.S. State Department noted today, Monday, that the situation in Russia remains fluid days after the unfinished rebellion, and that there are no predictions regarding the whereabouts of the Wagner group leader. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated, "It is certainly unusual to see President (Vladimir) Putin's leadership face a direct challenge. It is new to see Yevgeny Prigozhin directly question the rationale for this war and state that the war was fundamentally based on a lie." Miller indicated that the events of the beginning of the week reinforce Washington's concerns about the instability caused by the Wagner group whenever it intervenes in any country. He emphasized that while Washington does not know what will happen to Wagner in Ukraine or Africa, as long as this group or any organization that may succeed it operates in Africa, Ukraine, or elsewhere, the United States will take measures to hold it accountable.
