The son of the governor of the Krasnoyarsk region of Russia, Artem Os, fled from Italy back to Russia after being placed under house arrest while awaiting extradition to the United States, according to the official news agency RIA Novosti. Os was arrested in Italy on charges of shipping oil from Venezuela in violation of sanctions and committing banking fraud. Os told RIA Novosti that the charges against him are politically motivated. He escaped from house arrest at his home in the suburbs of Milan last month, triggering an alert from his electronic ankle monitor, indicating a breach of his house arrest, just hours after a court ordered his extradition to the United States, despite facing only two of the four charges brought against him.
