General Ibrahim: Urgent Need for Presidential Election

The former director-general of public security, General Abbas Ibrahim, issued a call "to expedite the election of a president for the republic, which has become a necessary and urgent need more than ever, in order to preserve the constitution and amid the collapse of state institutions, and the worsening economic conditions day by day. Growth and security cannot be achieved in the absence of political stability."

He pointed out that "the state we all aspire to is one of justice and balanced development, a state of rights and duties, a state with an independent and fair judiciary that interprets the law, not the political volumes, a state whose security is for the people, not against them, a state of citizenship, not sectarianism."

During his patronage of an iftar banquet held by the Secretary-General of the "Ba'ath" Party, Ali Hijazi, in his honor in Baalbek, Ibrahim affirmed that "no rescue project in Lebanon will succeed without focusing on the priority of investment, starting with the talents of its citizens." He added, "The first of these investments lies in transforming Lebanon into a productive country in both agricultural and industrial sectors, especially after the service economy has proven its failure due to the prevailing instability in the region and its repercussions on us."
