The World Health Organization (WHO) has terminated the employment of one of its senior officials for sexual misconduct following an investigation prompted by a complaint from a junior British doctor. WHO spokesperson Marcia Pol stated that "Timo Wakanivalu has been dismissed from the World Health Organization after the investigation findings revealed his sexual misconduct, leading to disciplinary action." She added in the statement: "Sexual misconduct of any type is unacceptable from anyone working with the World Health Organization, whether they are an employee, a consultant, or a partner." Pol mentioned that Wakanivalu has the right to appeal his dismissal internally within the WHO or to an arbitration panel at the International Labour Organization.
