Four Countries Sue Iran in International Court of Justice

Canada, Sweden, Ukraine, and Britain requested on Wednesday that the International Court of Justice file a lawsuit against Iran regarding the downing of a Ukrainian passenger plane in January 2020, which resulted in the death of 176 people on board. The International Court of Justice stated, "The plaintiffs claim that Iran failed to take all practical measures to prevent the downing of flight PS 752 of Ukraine International Airlines and also failed to properly investigate the matter." The four countries noted in their request to the court that "Iran violated a series of obligations under the Montreal Convention on the Safety of Civil Aviation." They added, "Iran failed to take all practical steps to prevent the tragedy of flight PS 752, and also neglected to conduct a fair, transparent, and just investigation and prosecution."
