Ambush in Congo Kills Four Including Two Chinese Nationals

An regional official in the Democratic Republic of Congo revealed today, Sunday, that four individuals, including two Chinese nationals and a Guinean, were killed on Friday in an ambush targeting a convoy of a Congolese mining company in the eastern part of the country. The identity of the assailants behind the attack on the company's convoy, which consisted of four vehicles while leaving the T.S.M mining site in Fizi in the South Kivu province, remains unclear. Local official Sami Badibangaa stated via telephone, "It is likely that the motive for this incident was the belief that the convoy was carrying a gold shipment." He added that the fourth victim was a Congolese soldier, while three others were seriously injured. Efforts to reach T.S.M for comment were not immediately successful.
