The Minister of Economy and Trade in the caretaker government, Amin Salam, has referred 251 summons to the judiciary, issued by the inspectors of the Consumer Protection Directorate in the ministry, against importers, sales points, generator owners, restaurants, butcher shops, and water purification factories. This action is due to documented violations of existing laws that protect consumer rights and criminalize tampering with the livelihood of Lebanese citizens and manipulating the prices and quality of goods. Salam called on the judiciary to impose the strictest penalties on the violators to protect the rights of the Lebanese people, preventing opportunistic traders from exploiting pressing circumstances to achieve exorbitant and unlawful profits.
