Guterres: Chronic Shortfall in Humanitarian Aid Funding

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres criticized today, Wednesday, what he described as a "chronic shortfall in funding for aid worldwide, despite increasing humanitarian needs." Guterres stated, "The chronic funding gap and unprecedented levels of humanitarian needs are pushing the system to the brink." He noted that "the UN's global humanitarian appeal has received only 20 percent of the necessary funding, as the first half of 2023 comes to a close," emphasizing that "without a solution to the funding crisis, cuts will be inevitable."
