Finland officially became a member of NATO today, marking a historic shift in its security policy prompted by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto completed the accession process by delivering an official document to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken at NATO's headquarters in Brussels. In a tweet, he stated, "This is a historic day for Finland. I want to thank all NATO Allies for your great support throughout Finland’s NATO accession process. We are now one of the NATO countries, happy to be with you." NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg noted that Finland's accession to NATO would be a historic event and a direct result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
