U.S. President Joe Biden stated during a speech, "My son, who died of cancer in 2015, 'died in Iraq.'" The President noted that "American soldiers who later participated in World War II and fought against German forces were trained in Colorado," adding, "Imagine that. I say this sincerely. I say this as a father of someone who received the Bronze Star, the Distinguished Service Medal, and sacrificed his life in Iraq." The current U.S. President's eldest son, Beau Biden, served in Iraq from 2008 to 2009 and passed away in 2015 at the age of 46 due to brain cancer after being hospitalized in the United States. Joe Biden had previously mentioned that "his son's cancer may have been caused by exposure to toxic substances emitted during the burning of waste at U.S. military facilities, including in Iraq."
