Civil protection authorities in Algeria announced the death of 7 people and the disappearance of two others in the provinces of Tlemcen and El Bayadh, due to the rising water levels of rivers following heavy rainfall in the area. A statement from civil protection on Sunday indicated that this includes 4 individuals—two men and two women—who were retrieved from a car swept away by the floodwaters of Wadi Dalia in the municipality of Bab El Assa in Tlemcen, located in the far west. Additionally, 3 bodies—a man and two women—were recovered from the waters in Wadi Dafla and Wadi Ben Gerad in El Bayadh, in the southwestern part of Algeria, while two other individuals are still missing and search operations are ongoing. The meteorological authorities had issued a special warning in the past two days, indicating thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in the western regions of the country, predicting that the amounts could exceed 40 millimeters.
