Biden Nominates Jack Lew as Ambassador to Israel

U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Tuesday the nomination of former U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew for the position of Ambassador to Israel. If confirmed by the Senate, Lew will face a complex political situation as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeks to implement judicial changes opposed by many in Israel and also by the Biden administration. Lew will succeed Ambassador Tom Nides in the role. He served as Secretary of the Treasury during the presidency of Barack Obama, and held the positions of White House Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources. In Bill Clinton's administration, Lew was the Director of the Office of Management and Budget from 1998 to 2001. He also worked on the National Security Council during both the Clinton and Obama administrations. Prior to this, while serving as a Special Assistant to Clinton, Lew was one of the architects of the AmeriCorps national service program.
