The major indices on Wall Street opened lower this Friday, following a decline in shares of large technology and growth companies, as signs of a robust U.S. economy fueled fears of prolonged high interest rates. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 106.47 points, or 0.31 percent, to open at 34,368.36 points. The S&P 500 also opened down by 25.48 points, or 0.58 percent, to 4,344.88 points. Meanwhile, the Nasdaq Composite dropped 126.91 points, or 0.95 percent, to 13,190.02 points at the opening.
