Government media reported today, Sunday, that the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the Swedish and Danish chargés d'affaires in Tehran due to the burning and desecration of copies of the Quran in their countries. Official media quoted the head of the Human Rights Department at the Iranian Foreign Ministry stating, "Iran holds the Swedish and Danish governments fully responsible for the serious repercussions of the desecration of the Holy Quran." In recent months, anti-Islam individuals in Denmark and Sweden have burned or desecrated copies of the Quran, provoking outrage in the Muslim world and demands for the Nordic governments to prohibit such acts. The governments of both countries condemned the burnings, stating they are considering enacting new laws aimed at preventing such actions.
