A firefighter official in Bangladesh announced that a boat carrying around 20 people capsized in the Buriganga River near the capital Dhaka today, Sunday. A senior police official in Bangladesh told Reuters that four bodies have been recovered and rescue operations are ongoing.
The police indicated that seven people have been rescued and taken to hospitals. Hundreds gathered at the site as rescuers on several boats searched the river. It is believed that most passengers swam to the shore as the boat sank near the bank, according to firefighter official Anwar Islam.
