Injuries from Building Collapse in Marseille and Fears of People Trapped Under the Rubble

Reports from Marseille, France indicate that a four-story residential building collapsed on Sunday, injuring at least five people. Damage occurred to two other buildings, and residents from approximately 30 buildings in the area were evacuated. French President Emmanuel Macron commented on the news, expressing his thoughts on Twitter, saying, "Our hearts are with Marseille."

Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin indicated that he believes around ten people may still be trapped under the rubble, noting that there were no known structural issues with the collapsed buildings on Tivoli Street.

Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan stated, "It is extremely difficult to control the fire," adding that "firefighters are struggling to put out this blaze, and there may likely be people alive inside."

Search operations in the rubble have been immediately initiated to extract potential victims and perform "doubt clearance" with urban search and rescue teams. Fire extinguishing actions are also being conducted.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known.
