The United States, South Korea, and Japan have expressed deep concern regarding the "malicious" cyber activities of North Korea in support of its weapon programs, according to a joint statement released today, Friday. The statement confirmed that "IT workers from North Korea abroad continue to use fake identities and nationalities to evade UN sanctions and raise funds for missile programs." It added, "We are also deeply concerned about how North Korea supports these programs through theft, money laundering, and gathering information via malicious cyber activities." US officials and experts, along with their allies, state that the cryptocurrencies stolen by North Korean hackers have been a primary source of funding for the country's sanction-bound weapon programs.
