Macron: The French Ambassador Will Remain in Niger

French President Emmanuel Macron stated today, Monday, that "the French ambassador to Niger will remain there despite pressures from the leaders of the recent coup in the country." During a speech to diplomats, Macron reiterated that he will continue to "support the ousted President of Niger, Mohamed Bazoum." He added: "I believe our policy is the right one. It is based on the courage of President Bazoum, and on our ambassador's commitments, who will stay there despite all the pressures, and despite all the statements issued by illegal authorities." The military council in Niger announced on Friday that it ordered French ambassador Sylvain Itté to leave the country within 48 hours.
