The far-right liberal candidate in Argentina, Javier Milei, made a surprising advance in the primaries held on Sunday, where initial results showed him obtaining 32.2 percent of the votes. This outcome is seen as a punishment from voters to the country's two largest political parties. The primaries, which provide a strong indication of how the general elections scheduled for October will unfold, saw the main conservative opposition bloc securing 27.7 percent of the votes after 65 percent of the votes were counted, ahead of the ruling Peronist coalition which received 25.8 percent.
