Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani announced today, Friday, that his country believes "Israel will do its utmost to target the Palestinian Hamas movement only in response to the devastating attack launched by the movement early this week." Tajani stated during a visit to Israel: "I am convinced that Israel will have a proportional response and will make every effort to strike Hamas only," emphasizing that Israel has "the right to self-defense." Tajani, who is also Deputy Prime Minister Georgia Meloni, expressed that Italy is still concerned for its citizens on the ground, with about 10 of them remaining in the Gaza Strip. He hoped that "Hezbollah will not get involved in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict," urging everyone to "avoid further tension." Italian Economy Minister Giancarlo Giorgetti also expressed today, Friday, the significant concerns of the G7 and G20 nations regarding the crisis in the Middle East following Hamas's attack on Israel earlier this week, due to the potential geopolitical and economic instability it may lead to. Giorgetti made these remarks on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund in Marrakech, Morocco.
