The World Food Programme (WFP) of the United Nations announced today, Friday, that it will have to further reduce food assistance to millions of people across Yemen starting at the end of September due to a "severe funding crisis for its humanitarian operations." The programme stated in a statement seen by Reuters: "This reduction will affect all key programmes being implemented nationwide." It confirmed that, without new funding, it expects around three million people in the northern regions controlled by the Houthis and about 1.4 million people in southern regions to be affected. The programme emphasized its need for $1.05 billion over the next six months to support its humanitarian operations in Yemen and mentioned that only 28 percent of this required funding has been secured so far.
