Middle East Airlines Cancels Several Flights Starting Sunday

Mohammed El-Hout, the president of Lebanese Middle East Airlines, announced today, Friday, that the company will reduce the number of its flights due to changes in insurance coverage. He indicated that only eight out of 22 aircraft will operate starting next week because of these changes.

In detail, El-Hout explained, "We received a cancellation notice for our insurance, which will take effect on Sunday, and the insurance companies allowed us to operate flights with an 80 percent reduction in coverage."

He confirmed that "we have no information regarding any threats to the airport, and all data we have received assures that the escalation in the south will remain within the rules of engagement."

He noted, "We will issue a dynamic flight schedule to ensure that most travelers can reach their destinations."

For his part, Ali Hamie, the Minister of Public Works and Transport in the caretaker government, confirmed that "Rafic Hariri International Airport - Beirut continues to perform its role and duties assigned to it."
