UK Environment Minister Resigns, Criticizes Prime Minister

UK Environment Minister Zac Goldsmith resigned from the government today, Friday, criticizing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, describing him as "uninterested" in environmental matters. He stated, "The problem is not that the government is anti-environment; it's that you, Prime Minister, are simply uninterested. The UK has clearly stepped back from the global stage and abandoned our leadership in climate and nature."

A report published this week by government climate advisers indicated that "the UK has lost its global standing in the fight against climate change and is not doing enough to achieve net zero emissions by mid-century." Goldsmith oversees the Ministry of Overseas Territories, Commonwealth, Energy, Climate, and Environment.
