Title: Head of the Bakeries Union in Beirut and Mount Lebanon Warns of Potential Wheat Crisis

The head of the Bakeries Union in Beirut and Mount Lebanon, Nasser Sourour, appealed through "Wordna" to political powers, parties, and ministers to "initiate the establishment of a sovereign fund to build silos in Beirut and Tripoli, and if possible in Tyre and Sidon, so that Lebanon has a wheat reserve sufficient for one year." He announced that "Lebanon is heading towards a significant wheat crisis if this issue is not addressed, and as long as the Russian-Ukrainian war continues, importing will become an impossible task," explaining that "the current stock is held in the private sector." Sourour added: "If a sovereign fund cannot be established, it is possible to approach donor countries that assist Lebanon in development to push for the construction of silos to avoid problems occurring in the region. As for the wheat reserves, as long as imports continue without any security or military issues, wheat supply will remain ongoing to the country, and there will be no crisis in bread and flour."
