U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced today that the deployment of a second aircraft carrier to the eastern Mediterranean is part of efforts to "deter hostile actions against Israel or any attempts to escalate the war following the attack launched by Hamas" on the Israeli state. The aircraft carrier "USS Eisenhower" and its accompanying warships will join the "Gerald Ford" carrier, which had already been deployed to the region following the Hamas attack a week ago. Austin stated in a statement that the deployment of the warships demonstrates "Washington's firm commitment to Israel's security and our determination to deter any state or non-state actor seeking to escalate this war."
