Oil Spill from Pipeline near Iran's Southern Coast

The semi-official news agency "Tasnim" reported today, Sunday, that "an oil spill occurred from a pipeline connecting the Iranian island of Kharg to the port of Genaveh on the mainland of the Islamic Republic, without specifying the volume of the spill." A official from Bushehr province stated, "Diving teams were sent to prevent the oil spill from the pipelines on the seabed," adding that "authorities dispatched two ships to the coasts of Kharg and Genaveh to assist in cleanup efforts." The island of Kharg is located 25 kilometers off the Gulf coast and has a terminal through which a significant portion of Iran's oil exports are shipped.
