Egypt: Discovery of a Secret Passage in the Great Pyramid of Khufu

Today, Egyptian antiquities officials announced the discovery of a hidden passage measuring nine meters in length behind the main entrance of the Great Pyramid in Giza, stating that it could lead to further discoveries. This latest discovery is part of the "Scan Pyramids" project, which has been utilizing modern technology since 2015, including scans and internal visualization, to uncover the secrets of the pyramid, the last remaining wonder of the seven ancient wonders.

According to Mustafa Waziri, the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt, the incomplete passage was likely constructed either to relieve the weight of the pyramid above the main entrance located seven meters below it or to ease the weight above another undiscovered room or space.

The Great Pyramid was built during the reign of the pharaoh Khufu to serve as a massive tomb around 2560 BC. It stands at a height of 146 meters and was the tallest man-made structure until the Eiffel Tower was completed in Paris in 1889.
