The Iranian embassy in Paris was attacked today, Saturday, by members of the "Mojahedin-e Khalq" organization, who fled the scene afterward. According to Iranian media, the group members set fire to the embassy gate and then escaped from the incident location. The "Mojahedin-e Khalq" is considered the largest and most active Iranian opposition movement, founded in 1965 with the aim of overthrowing the Shah's regime. Since June 20, 1981, the "Mojahedin-e Khalq" announced what they called armed struggle against Iran. Reports indicate that the first phase of this "struggle" between 1981 and 1982 resulted in the deaths of 12,000 people, while sources have stated that more than 16,000 people were killed in violent attacks carried out by the Mojahedin-e Khalq since 1979.
