Two sources in the Nigerian presidency mentioned on Sunday that Chadian President Mohamed Idriss Deby volunteered to speak with the military leaders in Niger and provide a report to the President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Nigeria's Bola Tinubu. Deby met with Tinubu on the sidelines of an emergency ECOWAS summit in the Nigerian capital, Abuja. A presidential source told Reuters: "The President of Chad volunteered in the bilateral meeting to go and talk with the military council in Niger and provide a report."
