EU Calls for COP28 to Mark the Beginning of the End for Fossil Fuels

European Union Climate Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra stated on Wednesday that the United Nations climate conference (COP28) should reach a final agreement that marks the beginning of the end for fossil fuels. He continued in a press conference: "I want this conference of the parties to represent the beginning of the end for fossil fuels. We simply must eliminate fossil fuels entirely."
