The International Committee of the Red Cross reported today, Friday, that around 10,000 Ukrainians, including many elderly and disabled individuals, are clinging to life amidst horrific conditions inside and around the besieged city of Bakhmut. Russian forces have been attempting to take control of the city for months in what has become one of the bloodiest infantry battles in Europe since World War II. Omar Khan from the International Committee of the Red Cross, who has provided assistance to the residents of Bakhmut in recent days, stated that estimates suggest several thousand remain in the city itself. He added, "For the civilians trapped there, they are living in very harsh conditions, spending almost entire days under intense shelling in underground shelters." He further noted, "All you see are people who have completely exhausted their energy just to survive."
